Mid facelift
Table of contents:
What is a mid-facelift?
Whereas a full face lift lifts the entire face, a mid-facelift concentrates on the ageing around the cheekbones and the nasolabial area. With minimal incisions, such as in a lower eyelid correction, the drooping tissue can be lifted back over the cheekbone, restoring its youthful contours. A mid-facelift can be combined with fat grafting in the cheeks to help improve premature facial ageing.
Procedure - How is a mid-facelift performed?
Through incisions in the lower eyelid, the middle part of the face, which normally does not change much with a regular facelift, is repositioned and fixed higher up on the face. The skin and underlying fatty tissue of the cheeks is thereby lifted. As a result, your bags and the deep nasolabial folds lessen or disappear and the skin of your cheeks is smooth and tight again. It often even gives a more natural result.
Advantages
- A youthful appearance
- Tighter skin
- More prominent cheekbones
Disadvantages or complications
If the mid-facelift procedure is performed by an experienced and trained surgeon, it is generally considered safe. But as with all plastic surgeries, there are risks associated with the procedure.
- Prolonged swelling
- Bruising or haematoma
- Health risks associated with anaesthesia
- Numbness
- Stiffness
- Scars
Recovery
- Full recovery from a mid-facelift can take several months, but most people will see full results after 2 to 3 months.
- You should not engage in any strenuous physical activity or sports for 3 weeks following your surgery. Your surgeon may advise you to sleep slightly elevated on your back.
- About a week after surgery, you will need to return to your surgeon to have the stitches removed.
